Ben Edelman on Spyware
Ben Edelman is a Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Economics at Harvard University and has written at length about spyware programs' installation methods, privacy effects, and revenue sources. He specializes in designing software to probe spyware, e.g. by posting lists of advertisers supporting spyware, and he has documented the many relationships between spyware companies and advertising networks. He has also served as an expert or consultant in a multiple cases against purveyors of spyware, including the successful Washington Post / New York Times suit against Gator.
